Firefighters were called to two separate blazes in Ely in 12 hours last weekend.

At 12.58am on Saturday, crews from Littleport and Ely attended a house fire in Kent Close.

Four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used two hose reels to extinguish the fire and positive pressure ventilation fans to clear smoke.

The crews returned to stations by 3.27am.

The cause of the fire was accidental.

In a separate incident, crews from Ely and Cambridge extinguished a boat fire in Annesdale, by the River Ouse, after receiving a call at 12.28pm on Sunday.

Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel to put out the blaze. They returned to the station by 2pm.

The fire was thought to be caused by an overheated generator.
