Parking on Market Street in Ely could change and letters have been sent out to local businesses and taxi firms to explain why more taxi bays are needed in Ely.

Under new proposals submitted by East Cambridgeshire District Council, a consultation process will be underway to change the 30 minute parking bays to an extended taxi rank.

The 3 bays currently located outside of Thingy-Me-Bobs will be used to allow a 7 bay taxi rank instead of the current 4.

At present their are far more many taxis than ranks in Ely with two other smaller bays located near the top of Forehill adjacent to Market Square.

The council is currently taking comments both from who agree or object via email at licensing@eastcambs.gov.uk or by post to Senior Licencing Officer, East Cambridgeshire District Council, The Grange, Nutholt Lane, Ely, CB7 4EE.

The licencing committee will be held on Monday 20 March 2017 and all correspondence must be in by March 2nd. Any correspondence after this time will not be accepted.
