Witchford Village College competed in the Isle of Ely District Athletics recently in Kings Lynn.
The college took over fifty students competing in sprints, long distance, hurdles, jumps, discus, shot and javelin. They came away with the Isle of Ely District Plate for the College’s overall performance and came third but were the first-placed state school.
In individual events, students placed first and second will go on to represent the College at the County Qualifiers. Notable performances from Ella Reed (Year 8) 100m and 200m, Kaitlyn Brooks (Year 9) Discus, Oliver Ward (Year 9) 100m, George Hay (Year 9) 300m, Jack Wilcox (Year 9) Hurdles, Jack Berriman (Year 9) 1500m. From Year 10, Leo Ekwuru 100m, 200m and Triple Jump, Rory Dingley 400m and James Thew 1500m.
Lizzy Harrison from Year 7 has been invited as a guest runner to the County Athletics. As a Year 7 pupil she is too young to compete in the Junior Girls. However, she is faster than the Year 9 students competing and so has gained the invite.
“We are very proud of our students’ achievements, congratulations to them all.”
