That’s because the dynamic duo each won a prize in an Easter Bonnet design contest, run by Friends of the Lantern School (FOTLS).

Stanley won the Reception Category, while Felicity scooped the Year 2 prize. Their friend Lexi, pictured left, also entered the contest.
The youngsters were among numerous students at The Lantern Community School and Goslings Pre-School in Ely, taking part in Easter bonnet and seed tray miniature garden competitions run by FOTLS, the school’s fundraising committee, with 16 prizes up for grabs.
Each winner got an Easter themed activity book and a certificate.

And today, the popular play group celebrated its fifth birthday at Ely Library.

The group bounced into action in 2012 when mum-of-two Michelle Brown struggled to find an affordable music group in Ely that provided musical instruments, toys, games and snacks for her children Xander and Hazel, who are now nine and six.
She decided to set up her own group at Jubilee Gardens, called Singing in the Park, complete with lovable bunny mascot, Eddie Hop.
The group was an instant hit, and when the weather turned cold, Michelle and friends decided to continue it at Ely Library.
Run completely by volunteers, Hoppy Feet has gone from strength to strength, and as well as keeping youngsters entertained, the group regularly fundraises for charity.
Today Hoppy Feet and Eddie celebrated their fifth birthday – and Spotted in Ely​ were there.

Aimed at building courage, confidence and character, SHINE aspires to empower girls in years seven to nine from across East Anglia, exploring ways of overcoming obstacles through a range of activities.

Main organiser Rachael Heffer, says: “The Shine Girls Day just gets better every year.
“Now in our seventh year of Shine, the Shine team of 25 plus female helpers all love welcoming the girls from all over the region and, through the wide range of themed talks, pampering, and activities, we really hope it’ll be the best Saturday of their year!”
This year’s theme is “Us Girls Can” – shattering the glass ceiling that many girls may encounter, tackling issues around self-esteem and empowering girls to reach for their dreams.

Rachael says: “We will explore the themes of courage, character, confidence, trust, and how the girls can overcome the challenges that come their way.
“It’s all set to be another very encouraging and fun day.”
Participants will get to choose from a host of activities, such as taking part in a gospel choir and vocal workshop, burning off energy at a boot camp, exploring their creative skills in card making and cake decorating workshops, or joining a performance and drama workshop.

SHINE will take place at the The Countess Free Church, Chapel Street, Ely, from 10am to 4pm on March 18.
Admission for the day, including lunch and refreshments, is £12 per child.

Even Mary and Joseph are getting their groove on in this Christmas favourite, currently being practised by Year 1 students at the Lantern Community Primary School in Ely.

The five and six-year-olds in Robins and Doves classes have already performed to kids at Goslings Pre-School and will display their talents to parents tomorrow and Friday.
One of the UK’s favourite nativities for young children, Wriggly Nativity is designed for people who can’t sit still, complete with lots of dancing and catchy tunes.

The Cubs group at Rainbow Pre-School, aged between two and three, got a special tour of the beautiful Christmas trees on display at the Ely Methodist Church, as well as the chance to take part in a short Nativity scene.
The children were invited to dress up as angels and shepherds as part of the celebration.

Each child was given a bauble or decoration to put on their favourite tree.

The exhibition features a huge assortment of trees, decorated by local groups, organisations and charities, including Cambridgeshire Constabulary, Forest School children at The Lantern, 3rd Ely Cubs, L2 Drive, City of Ely Flower Club, Ely and Newmarket Methodist Circuit Guild and a Fairtrade tree – to name just a few.

But with these particular youngsters, their favourite tree was the one they’d decorated themselves – the Rainbow Pre-School Christmas Tree!

Before leaving the festival, the youngsters took a few moments to pose in front of their tree.
Each year the Christmas Tree Festival at the Chapel Street church attracts hundreds of visitors.

The Ely primary was one of numerous schools across our district fundraising for the BBC’s annual Children in Need appeal.

Youngsters swapped their purple and yellow uniforms for bright spots and fluffy headbands, each making a voluntary £1 donation to the charity, which raises money to help children and young people across Britain each year.
So far Children in Need has raised a record £46.6 million nationwide.

This week residents young and old dug out their polka dots, fluffy ears and Pudsey costumes to raise cash for the BBC’s annual Children in Need appeal.

Numerous events were held in schools, preschools, baby and toddler groups and workplaces across East Cambridgeshire.
At The Lantern Goslings Pre-School in Ely, children and staff went “green for Terry” to honour the memory of the late Sir Terry Wogan, the face behind Children in Need for many years.

Goslings manager Michelle Smith said: “There were so many leprechauns seen hopping around pre-school today, it was fantastic.”
Meanwhile Witcham baby and toddler group held a cake sale on Wednesday to raise money for Children in Need.

Parents were invited to make a donation towards the charity, with many children dressing up in spots or fancy dress.
Earlier in the week, similar parties were held during the Pups and Tigers sessions at Rainbow, raising £161.97 for Children in Need.
Events are being held in schools, pre-schools and workplaces to raise cash for the charity, which has its annual BBC television appeal tonight.

Ok, so it’s only November – but tonight saw the launch of Ely Markets Festive Lates.

This new event is aimed at promoting local businesses and enticing shoppers into the city centre.
Entertained by Ely rockerbilly Jacen Bruce, shoppers were able to try lots of delicious street food, ranging from Thai to Sri Lanken and vegan, as well as gourmet cakes, mulled wine and espresso martinis.
A number of local businesses, including The Eel Catcher’s Daughter, the Card Factory, M&Co and the Wood Green Animal Shelter charity shop opened for extended hours tonight to take part in the special late night shopping promotion.
The first Festive Lates market coincided with the launch of Pancreatic Cancer Awareness 2016, Lighting up Ely Cathedral. Niki Brown, who was behind the initiative, had a stall at the market to raise awareness about pancreatic cancer.
Festive Lates will run from 4.30pm to 8.30pm every Thursday in the run up to Christmas.
