Free First World War Family History Day & Open Day at Ely Museum
November 3, 2018 @ 11:00 am - 4:00 pm
Join us for a FREE First World War Family History Day & enjoy FREE entry to the museum all day as we mark the centenary of the end of the Great War
Led by the military historians, including experts on local regiments such as the Cambridgeshire Regiment, Hunts Cyclists and the Suffolk Regiment, they will be on hand all day to help
Please bring along any wartime photographs, postcards, medals, badges or items that they would like to find out more about.
Also on the day, enjoy taking a look at their great pop-up exhibition, which details the 1/1st Battalion, Cambridgeshire Regiment’s part in the fighting of 1918 – a year that saw the heaviest losses for the Battalion for any year of the War. Alongside this there will be a display of medals and biographies of some of the Cambs men involved in the 1918 fighting
With this year marking the 100th anniversary of the Armistice this event is an excellent opportunity for people to talk directly to researchers with decades of experience in research First World War soldiers and sailors. Many people have wartime photographs or medals sat in draws at home, so why not bring them along and see what you will discover about your relatives!
Also, enjoy a visit to the rest of the museum, including our new exhibition, including a selection of medals and biographies of some of the local Ely soldiers who fought in the War, find out about the Cambridgeshire Regiment in 1918 and see the recently conserved King’s Colour of the 11th Battalion, Suffolk Regiment – ‘The Cambs Suffolks’
