SGM Autumn Talks: Glass and the Seaside Pier
October 24, 2018 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Join us for the final instalment of our Autumn Lecture Series for this talk by Dr Clare Barry ‘Glass and the Seaside Pier’
The seaside pier was one of the most exciting and innovative new building types to emerge in the nineteenth century. The use of glass in pier design has received relatively little attention, but this talk will explore its essential role in creating a space of spectacular exoticism and thrilling, subversive modernity.
Dr Clare Barry is a lecturer at the Cambridge School of Visual & Performing Arts, a tutor at University of East Anglia and Central Saint Martins, University of The Arts London. She gained her PhD from Middlesex University in Architectural and Cultural History.
