June 15 @ 11:00 am - 4:00 pm

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every day that begins at 11:00 am, repeating until June 16, 2019

Artist in Residence at Ely’s Courthouse: 15 & 16 June, 11am-4pm.
Local artist, Ted Coney will be working in a popup studio in the main courtroom on his latest family painting ‘Who Stole The Toothpaste?’. As well as the current picture in progress, visitors will be able to see all his preliminary canvases and sketches made in the courtroom and cells over the last year. His painting imagines how the family lost a fortune, a hundred years ago. Ted has used the image of Toad to show how greed and pomposity can lead to ruin. It is reputed that E.H. Shepard, (the illustrator of ‘Wind in the Willows’), used Ely’s courtroom as the inspiration for Toad’s downfall. FREE ENTRY.
