Bob Fox supported by Steve O’Kane

A 40-year career that began during the vibrant “folk revival” of the 60s and 70s has seen Bob become one of the most highly rated and best-loved singer/guitarists both in the UK and beyond. Masterful interpretation of traditional and contemporary song combined with an outstanding guitar technique has earned him countless nominations in the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards over the years. Bob played the role of Songman for over four years in The National Theatre’s West End production of WarHorse and in two subsequent touring versions. He can be heard singing extensively on the new Radio Ballads commissioned by the BBC, and most recently completed a sell-out UK tour as one of the Pitmen Poets.

Don’t miss the chance to see and hear one of our finest exponents of storytelling through song, expect to hear of love, joy, work and humour all accompanied by a wonderful guitar style that can both drive or embellish his supreme singing.
To open the evening, we will have a set from Steve O’Kane. Steve is a singer/songwriter and poet, originally from Essex, now living near the Norfolk/Cambridgeshire border. His songs are mainly gentle, philosophical ballads, short stories reflecting the emotions and thoughts that we experience as we go though the ups and downs of love and life. Essex Sound Archives described him thus: ‘Steve’s gentle songs and guitaring always draw you in to the mood and meaning he wishes to convey. Intelligent, articulate, poetic and emotional; songs that speak to us all.’

Early performances on BBC Radio led to successive years at the opening night of the Tenterden Folk Festival, supporting such as Ashley Hutchings, Blair Dunlop, and The Acoustic Strawbs. Unfortunate circumstances then forced Steve to abandon his career, but he is now starting to perform once again; we are pleased to offer him this opportunity to once more showcase his work.
