The Chorister Experience at Ely Cathedral
Discover The Chorister Experience at Ely Cathedral.
The Chorister Experience is a brand new event for boys in Years 2 and 3. It gives them a taste of life in Ely Cathedral Choir, and culminates in the chance to sing Evensong under the famous Octagon Tower. Along the way they’ll have a chance to dress in choir robes, meet the current choristers and discover the fascinating history of one of England’s most famous ancient buildings.
The day consists of singing games and workshops led by the Cathedral’s professional music team, as well as arts and crafts activities, and ends with Evensong which starts at 4pm. Participants are fully supervised throughout the day by the Cathedral’s staff (all of whom are trained in Safeguarding and fully DBS cleared) and there are separate events for parents and guardians. A cooked lunch is provided, as are refreshments throughout the day. Each boy will go home with a goodie bag and – we hope – the memory of a fantastic day of music-making.
Choristership is a uniquely rewarding opportunity and the one of the best starts in life a child can have. The professional skills it teaches last a lifetime and equip children for many different careers: former England cricket captain Sir Alastair Cook, singer and actor Alexander Armstrong and MP David Lammy all attribute their success to the training they received as choristers.
