The new Cambridge North Station is on track to open on May 21, making commuting easier for passengers working at the city’s business or science parks.

The £50 million station is expected to carry out 3000 passenger journeys a day.

A tweet posted by Local Government Association chief executive and former Cambridgeshire County Council boss Mark Lloyd said: “Trains start running from the brand new Cambridge North [CMB] station on 21/5. Well done @CambsCC for kickstarting this critical development.”
Currently in the last stages of construction, Cambridge North will provide onward connections to Stansted Airport, London Liverpool Street and London’s King’s Cross.
The first train from Ely to Cambridge North will depart at 6.19am on Monday, May 22, taking approximately 13 minutes.

Picture: Network Rail

The station, off Fen Road, will contain a ticket office, ticket vending machines, three platforms, two retail units, seven barrier gates, parking and links to surrounding areas.
Funded by the Department for Transport and developed by Network Rail in partnership with Cambridgeshire County Council, the station will serve Cambridge Science and Business Parks, and the suburb of Chesterton.
The station will be managed by Greater Anglia.
Cambridgeshire County Council is providing transport links to the station, including a new busway from Milton Road in Cambridge and pedestrian and cycle links.
According to Network Rail, the modern design of the station is “made apparent by the eye-catching aluminium cladding, which has been perforated into the pattern known as the ‘Game of Life’ – created by Cambridge University lecturer, John Horton.”
