]]> Cherry Hill Park took on a carnival atmosphere as people from over 20 nationalities yesterday got together to celebrate International Friendship Day.
Friendship
The informal picnic, organised by Ely mum of two Kate Holmes, was a fun way of bringing together the city’s friendly, diverse community and celebrating its rich cultures.
Yesterday marked International Friendship Day – so it was the perfect opportunity for the new Ely Friends International group to get together, play games such as cricket, football and rugby, and sample delicious foods from different countries.
There were plenty of smiles all round, with everyone coming away from the picnic with new friends and experiences.
Nationalities represented in the get together included Nigerian, Turkish, Spanish, French, Nepalese, Pakistani, German, Israeli, New Zealander, American, Jordanian, Portuguese, Zimbabwean, Lithuanian, Hungarian, Bulgarian, Mauritian, Chilean, Romanian, Italian, Swedish – and of course, British.

The group, which has almost 400 members, hopes to meet regularly.
