A sporting week played out in Ely against a background of sunshine and Wimbledon fever.
10is Academy was chasing the quadruple. With the Men 1 and the 14U girls having already won the National League Division 2, the attention was turned toward the Cambridgeshire leagues with the Ladies 1 and the Men 1 ready to grasp an extra two titles.
On Wednesday, 10is Academy ladies 1 needed a win at home against Cocks and Hens to bring the Treble home.
Mum and daughter (Sam and Tia) paired once again this season to bring a flawless 4 sets win. That performance was perfectly matched by Disa and Alice to give the home team a 8-0 win and the division’s title. The Ladies 1 are unbeaten in their first season, growing experience, and confidence.
On Saturday some celebrations started from 9am, with some fun competitions and matches for children aged between 4 to 16 years old. Sunshine, matches, crowd, and strawberries and cream gave the day a Wimbledon feel but the Men 1 team were already concentrating on their final match of the summer, away at David Lloyd.
The Men 1 could not afford to slip up with Duxford levelled on points: they did not disappoint. Tom and Seb won their first match 6/1 6/2 in less than 35 minutes while the young stars Rhys and Josh took a bit longer winning their match 6/3 6/7.
Another quick win from Tom and Seb guaranteed the win and the title. Josh and Rhys finished their season with another 2 sets to love win.
With the Quadruple achieved celebrations could resume.
Celebration will start on Sunday 17th July with the visit of world class tennis coach Louis Cayer whose players reached the semi-finals of Wimbledon.
The coaching team will then take a well-deserved 2 weeks break before coming back in August for their ever-popular summer camps and the club’s first year anniversary.
