12 & Under boys Division 1
Cassius, Jeremy and Alexander watched their hopes of winning the National league Division 1 disappear under the Cambridge LTC steamroller on Sunday.
“In the top division, you are coming up against some very good teams, it is important to note,” said head coach Sebastien Scaux.
Most county players come from Cambridge LTC; they are hard to play against. That is the big thing, we must play more often against these strong players and make sure we create some opportunities in these games.
The 12 & Under boys team won their previous game against Peterborough, but you could see a lack of intensity and focus. Against big, powerful players like Cambridge LTC have, playing without focus and high intensity doesn’t give you much hope of victory.
“Cambridge LTC are heavily resourced, their set-up is impressive. They’re a big club with big physical players who are technically sound. The boys are gutted because they know there’s more in them.”
Sebastien wants his team to learn from the experience and bounce back. A great amount of effort has gone into this season and there are still 2 games to be played. The team will have to get back on court and work hard to get ready for these matches.
Final result: Cambridge LTC 12 – 0 10is Academy
9 & Under Mixed team Division 2
Sebastien was positive with his comments about the 9 & Under performance in the Division 2, albeit he ended up on the losing side.
10is Academy suffered a 4-2 loss at Bourn Tennis Club despite a superb performance by Freya and a win by Charlotte who went up an age group to help the team. With one match experience under their belt, the team looked less nervous and ready to give their best – which they did.
Despite his team’s loss, the 10is Academy head coach was impressed with the team performance and in particular, Charlotte’s performance.
The 8-year-old player, who usually plays for the 9 & Under won her rubber 4/2 4/0.
Final Score: Bourn 10 – 2 10is Academy
“It has been a difficult week really: for the first time we had to ‘fight’ to find players to commit to the game. Some players had some birthday parties while others were on a weekend trip! Both our teams played with 3 players instead of 4… Knowing you are starting your matches already having lost a 3rd of the rubbers, you know you will need a great performance from all of your players to hope for victory”
The best chance of a win this weekend was with the 16 & Under girls at Cambridge Academy on Saturday but the match was cancelled because of the rain.
Next match will see the 14 and Under boys playing at home on Saturday 22nd May.
