10iS Academy’s Men 1 Roll Past Cottenham 1 in The LTA League

The 10is Academy Men’s tennis team started its 2021-22 LTA Winter League schedule with an 8-0 victory over Cottenham Men’s 1 in the team’s first home match of the year on Wednesday evening.

Pair number 1 Tom Shackleton and Sebastien Scaux earned 10is Academy’s first point of the day with a 6/4 6/1 victory, followed close behind by new players Rhys Baxter and Michael Ling posting a 6/2 6/1 win in their debuts.

In the reverse matches both pairs completed the doubles sweep with a 6/2 6/1 victory from Tom and Seb and a 6/2 6/2 win for Rhys and Michael.

“The team produced a solid performance, dropping only 16 games in 4 matches,” said Sebastien. “Cottenham came with a very strong team; and I was expecting a very tough match but our team played a very solid match.

With two new players in its first match of the season, 10is Academy impressed with a solid team performance and a great individual performance from Rhys Baxter.10is Academy’s Men 1, will return to action on Wednesday 6th October at home against Saffron Walden but tomorrow, the Ladies’ 1st team will be playing at Cottenham.

A day later, the 10is Academy Ladies 2 suffered an away defeat after being undone by Cottenham Ladies 1. Helen and Abi pushed Cottenham’s first pair to their limit, however, the home team ensured they claimed7/5 6/4victory. Sam and Tru also fought hard but an overall composed performance from Cottenham assure them a 8-0 victory.

On Saturday the Men’s 2 lost 8-0 to Needingworth 3. “I think the pairing did not work well today. I will have to reshuffle a few pairs very soon”, said head coach Sebastien Scaux.

Finally, on Sunday the Mixed 2nd team defeated Cambridge Tennis Academy Mixed 1 by 7 sets to 1. The home team did not need to play well to assure victory but is looking forward to a better performance in their next match.
