10is Academy 10 & Under team off a good start in the National League.
On Sunday the young 10is Academy players had their first match in the National league (after many cancellations due to the weather). Clara, Charlotte, and Oskar have been training hard and it showed on court.
Clara after losing her first set 1-4 won the second set on a tie-break (7-5) and sealed victory in the super tie-break 10-7.
In the meantime, Charlotte won her singles 4-1 4-0 while Oskar had a flawless win 4- 4-0. Only hiccup when in the doubles match. Clara & Charlotte comfortably won their first set 4-0 but lost focus and the match 4-0 0-4 8-10
10is Academy are still fighting to avoid relegation in the Cambs league, thanks to a 5-3 win against Great Shelford 5.
Two victories for Ely’s pair No.1 Ling Ling and Mutsuko, accompanied by an all-important set won by Sam and Helen against Great Shelford’s top pair gave 10is Academy Ladies a 5-3 win and place in the Group Stages.
Hats off to the players, they’ve come here to knowing that only a win will give them a fighting chance to stain in the league and they delivered. There’s a lot of work the players have done and they went out and fought really hard. It wasn’t the highest quality of tennis all the time because the opposition was very clever and did not allow for that but it needed a lot of grit and determination. The important thing is we got the win and it gives us the chance to stay up this year.”
The 10is ladies will need another win against Haslingfield 2 to stay in the division.
Next match could be a home match for the Men 1 against Newmarket (weather permitted).
