Yesterday saw yet an other successful Aquafest in Ely with thousands of people lining the edge of the river to watch the familiar annual event.
Opened by Mayor Liz Every and hosted in the main arena by BBC’s Sue Marchant, the day was packed with land and water based events, stalls, displays and fairground rides.
The Scouts Raft Race took place first and was won by HMS Rubber Ducky using just barrels and poles. The members were from the Scouts Explorer group of Ely Districts Scouts. Onboard the vessel was Captain Jack Cutforth, Jack Cooper, Polly Cooper and Carman Wallace-Sayers. On collecting the trophy, Captain Jack even managed a celebratory lap of honour in the main arena.
More trophies were to come when the seniors race happened and with the closest finish ever of only 14 seconds. In first place was The Outlaws followed in second and third by the 2 rafts from Thorlabs. Blaze of Glory collected the Most Spectacular Raft Award with Thorlabs awarded the Bouyant Business Award. Other boats included Sainsburys and G’s Farms.
In the main arena 4th Dimension Dance Studios with over 100 dancers entertained the packed audience along with the K9 Display Team.
