Students and staff at Bishop Laney Sixth Form have secured a fantastic set of Post-16 results this year.
Adam Steels, Head of Bishop Laney Sixth Form, said: “I want to congratulate all our students for their excellent achievements today. Over the last two years, they have overcome many challenges that were beyond their control. The commitment they have continued to show in their studies has been amazing and we could not be prouder.
“We believe our students should have the opportunity to achieve their ambitions, which is why we are proud to offer a very wide range of both A Levels and technical programmes.
“Our approach has been very popular with students and families, resulting in our sixth form growing by 200% since 2017. All our applicants to Russell Group and other leading Universities have been successful in achieving their places, and many other students are preparing to start higher and advanced apprenticeships in the coming weeks.
“We will be available to support and assist anyone who should need it in the coming weeks, and I wish everyone the best of luck in their future endeavours.”
Individual success stories:
Caleb Nelson-Shearing, secured the highest possible starred Distinction grade in his Diploma in Sport & Exercise Science, and in combining that with A Level Geography is planning to take up a place at studying Exercise and Sport Science in September at the University of Exeter.
Finn Pieters, achieved A Level grades including an A* in Biology; and will be taking up her place in York to start a biology degree in the coming weeks.
Ruby Ashman, combines starred Distinction in Applied Science and an A-grade A Level in Sociology. Like Finn, she is heading north and intends to take up a university place studying Psychology at the University of Leeds.
Will Nurse, will be building on excellent achievements in Media and Business, all at Distinction and starred Distinction grade, and the success of a recent work placement, heading to Manchester and combining media and business to study brand communications and advertising.
Ella Cousins, achieved A and B grades at A Level and will now join the NHS on a higher apprenticeship programme.
Sofia Beveridge, achieved Distinction and starred Distinction grades. She will now commence an advanced apprenticeship in supporting teaching.
Simon Warburton, Principal of Ely College & Bishop Laney Sixth Form added: “It is a pleasure to be celebrating with our staff and students today. The students and their parents recognise what a great experience Bishop Laney offers.
“These results reflect their resilience throughout this period of unprecedented turbulence and all students, and our amazing staff should be extremely proud of their accomplishments. We wish them the very best success for the future.”
