Cambridgeshire County Council has this afternoon assured Spotted in Ely that the Ely Southern Bypass is on schedule.
The Cambridgeshire County Council are still to submit Business Plan/Study for the construction to the Department of Transport. The original timetable did state the plan would be sent in December 2015.
Any work estimated to be of value of £20 million must be submitted to the DofT so they can assess the work and tender process and overall value caps on spend to complete the project. The Ely Southern Bypass project is estimated to cost in excess of £35 for the 1 mile stretch of road.
Tony Taylorson, PR & Comms for Cambridgeshire County Council told us “I can confirm that we have been having discussions regarding the business case with the DfT but nothing has changed in terms of the timetable. We are still looking to begin work in the late summer of 2016 and the project should be completed by the end of 2017 subject to weather conditions. Talks continue with the DfT and plans will be submitted soon”.
The Department of Transport have not been available for a comment at this time until they speak to the person responsible for this project .
