After boosting their chances to win the league with consecutive wins in the local derby against Ely TC 3 and Ely TC 4, 10is Academy Men 2 welcomed Newmarket Men 5 in a tricky home match. With Ely TC 3 on the same number of points, only a convincing win would guarantee the 10is team the title in the Cambridgeshire Winter league division.
Underpinned by a sense of camaraderie, a commitment to training and its overall team depth, 10is Academy Men 2 found the winning formula in the Men Cambridgeshire winter league event, showcasing a blueprint that others may look to emulate in future years.
Captain Max clinched Sunday’s final match victory with a tight first match 7-5, 6-4 win over Newmarket’s top pair followed by a 6/1 6/1 win over Newmarket’s second pair. The 10is team’s Top pair Max & Jordan dropped just 2 sets during the entire league.
Second pair Ed and Mish did they part too, by winning 3 sets out of 4 to give the 10is team a 7-1 win overall and clinch the title.
The camaraderie within the team was instrumental in its success. It’s been special since the opening of 10is Academy at King’s Ely in September 2021. Since its opening the club has now won 8 titles and had an extra 2 promoted teams.
“It takes a club to raise a winning team: the on-court victories are the visible part of the success, but all the hard work is done when nobody is watching” said 10is director, Sebastien Scaux. “The wins and titles are more about the values, responsibilities and life lessons that the players must share rather than about chasing titles.”
10is Academy Ely’s vision is to create a playful world through tennis and help its player reach their full potential. All players regardless of their skills will find a place to enjoy themselves and enjoy a challenge.
