Over the past two weekends, top City of Ely ASC swimmers have competed at the Swim England East Region Festival of Swimming competitions held in Norwich and London at the 50m Olympic size pools.
This year these are a replacement for the regional competitions and swimmers had to achieve tough qualifying times to take part. The atmosphere was different with no spectators poolside allowed.
Megan Clarke qualified for the Development section for the first time and swam two events and had two personal bests (PBs). Lexi Harrison also competed at regional level for the first time, having been deprived of a first chance in 2020 with the shutdown of competitions, she competed in seven events and achieved 3 PBs.
For our more experienced swimmers there was also success, Amelie Hawksley gained a Club record in the 200 butterfly, Tia Hill swam in five events and had 4 PBs and Daniel Kendall qualified for eleven events and came away with nine PBs and five Club records.
They were all pleased to be back swimming at regional level after such a long break. Despite reduced training hours and no opportunity to swim in a 50m pool during the pandemic, all our swimmers competed very well.
Congratulations to Megan, Lexi, Amelie, Tia and Daniel.
