Returning to local competitive swimming at an external venue for the first time in more than 18 months, 31 swimmers from City of Ely Amateur Swimming Club attended the December Open run by Newmarket and District Swimming Club on the 4th/5th December.
Ten swimmers were swimming for the first time at a competition outside the home club environment – well done to Stephanie, Lola, Will, Summer, Gabriel, Shea, Alex, Immy, Jacob and Barry. This was an exciting opportunity for swimmers to achieve better times, also to gain county qualifying times for 2022.
Impressive swimming saw the swimmers achieve 69 PBS, 27 Gold, 25 Silver and 25 bronze medals between them, accumulating a top points total from all the swims with points awarded according to race placings, this saw the team win the Top Visiting Club award. Our top medal winners were Jorja Atkinson (6 Gold, 1 Silver, 2 Bronze), Joshua Black (3 Gold, 4 Silver), Megan Clarke (2 Gold, 2 Silver, 1 Bronze), Oliver Davey (2 Gold, 4 Silver, 5 Bronze), Tia Hill (4 Gold, 3 Silver, 1 Bronze), Daniel Kendall (3 Gold, 5 Silver, 1 Bronze), and Gabriel Kim (a first time attendee at an open meet)(4 Gold).
Additional medal winners who also achieved numerous PBS were Lola Carey ( 2 Bronze), Erin-Mae Carey (1 Bronze), Jake Challenger (1 Bronze), William Clarke (1 Bronze), Jake Dunham (1 Silver), Evie Greenhill (1 Bronze), Summer (1 Silver), Adam Jones (1 Gold, 1 Bronze), Alexander New (1 Silver, 1 Bronze), Connie Norman (1 Bronze), Cillian O’Brien (1 Silver, 1 Bronze), Shea O’Brien (1 Silver), Nathan Okoro (2 Bronze), Isabella Pillow (1 Bronze), Madeleine Pillow (1 Gold, 1 Bronze), Imogen Ryan (1 Silver), Jacob Schultz (1 Gold) and Annabelle Smith (1 Bronze).
Swimmers who also achieved 17 personal best times between them were Stephanie Birkwood, Grace Norman, Alexander Pashley, Thomas Ryan, Barry Schultz and Lauren Turnock.
Several new county times qualifying times were also achieved. Congratulations to all!
