City of Ely Cricket Club News Update

After a successful 2019 season on the field, City of Ely Cricket Club recently had a number reasons to celebrate.

At the Cambridgeshire NatWest OSCAs – the Outstanding Service to Cricket Awards, the club were awarded Coaching Club of the Year for Cambridgeshire whilst Club President Brian Leonard was awarded a lifetime achievement award and Tom Woodman the young volunteer of the year award.

The club also had their Clubmark accreditation renewed for a further three years, passing the assessment with flying colours. A main part of the assessment included the club’s growth plans designed to increase participation in the sport in the Ely area.

On the subject of participation, for those new to the area or those just looking to take up Cricket for the first time, the clubs winter trainer sessions are underway.

Junior sessions for 8-15 year olds are taking place on Sunday afternoons at Littleport Leisure Centre (please see website for age group timings). Senior sessions are taking place at Ely College Sports Hall from 8pm-9.30pm.

Also underway are sessions for the club’s new Women’s team so if any ladies fancy giving Cricket a try please do come along on Thursdays 7-8pm at Ely College Sports Hall.
