Sunday 14th November saw 1094, City of Ely Squadron congregate at “The Ship of The Fens” Ely’s beautiful and historic Cathedral.
Cadets and staff attended a moving Cathedral Service with poppies falling like snow flakes from the Cathedral’s Lantern high above the central Octagon.
Following the service of Remembrance the Squadron formed up outside along with marching contingents from The City of Ely Military Band, Army Cadets, Scouts, Guides, Cubs and Brownies, St John’s Ambulance cadets and The Royal British Legion.
The parade marched along the High Street to the City War Memorial on the Market Square where following the laying of wreaths and Act of Remembrance the Squadron’s Cadet Warrant Officer read out The Kohima Epitaph.
There then followed a march past paying compliments to Lord Lieutenant Julie Spence.
Today marked the first post lockdown major public event for The Squadron and the first public event for the Squadron’s post covid recruits. Staff members were approached following the parade receiving numerous compliments from members of the public on the cadet’s superb drill and deportment.
It was so satisfying to once again get back out into the community and represent the light blue of our parent service The Royal Air Force.
The Squadron also attended services and laid wreaths at the War Memorials in Soham, Sutton and the 115 Squadron memorial at the site of the former bomber base RAF Witchford.
