City of Ely Swimming Club has once again produced impressive results at the Cambridgeshire ASA County Swimming Championships held over the last few weeks in Whittlesey and Cambridge.
There were individual placings for Maximilian Veiga was crowned Top 13 Year Old Boy and Georgia Holgate came 2nd in Top 13 Year Old Girl and Daniel Kendall in Top 14 Year Old Boy. Maximilian won 5 Golds, 5 Silvers and 4 Bronze medals and Georgia won 3 Golds, 4 Silvers and 3 Bronzes reaching one other sprint final and Daniel won 2 Golds, 2 Silvers, 5 Bronzes and qualified for 4 sprint final.
Ely’s team of 34 swimmers competing in individual events won 10 Gold, 14 Silver and 21 Bronze county medals together with many new Eastern Region qualifying and personal best times.
Other high-achieving county medal winners were Daniel Kendall (2 Gold, 2 Silver, 5 Bronze and 4 other sprint finals), Tia Hill (3 Bronze and 6 sprint finals), Lexi Harrison (1 Silver, 2 Bronze and 4 sprint finals), Amelie Hawksley (1 Silver and 2 Bronze), Megan Clarke (1 Silver and 2 sprint finals), Robert Banwell (1 Bronze and 1 sprint final) and Jake Challenger (1 Bronze).
Other swimmers qualifying to swim individually for Ely at the County Championships were Derrell Jackson (5 sprint finals), Hannah Turner (2 sprint finals), Bryony-Rose Brodie (1 sprint final), Kendle Putter, Mienke Putter, Nathan Okoro, Thomas Alderton, Phoebe Bishop, Sarah Hardiment, Erin-Mae Carey, Adam Jones, Lili-Rose Merrifield, Eryk Szymanski, Jennifer Holland, Oliver Davey, Orla Harrison, Olivia Brodie, Isabella Pillow, Amber Lloyd, Connie Norman, Lauren Turnock, Grace Norman, Alexander New, Jake Dunham and Ella Dunham.
The Championships culminated with the excitement of Sunday’s team relays at Parkside Pools Cambridge with Susannah Holland, Mark Banwell, Harriet Smith, Finley Jones, George Sporle, Adrian Kwiecien, Joshua Black and Emil Kwiecien joining their team for the relays.
Head coach Elaine Hill expressing her pride in her swimmers said “I have been so proud to see our swimmers stepping up to perform impressively at the County Championships yet again. All age groups have swum brilliantly and as ever it has been extremely pleasing to see so many of our young swimmers attending Counties for the first time, and Georgia, Daniel and Maximilian performing so strongly in their individual age group competitions. As always, the final sessions of relays was great fun with more outstanding swims.
