Sebastien Scaux – director and Head coach at 10is Academy, organised an Easter Tennis camp for players with special educational needs (including Down Syndrome and Autism), hoping to give opportunities to children and families who might otherwise be unable to play the sport.
The positive feedback for the camp means it could grow from a simple Easter Camp to a year-round lesson for children aged between 6 and 16.
“In a program like this, you get a little bit of everything,” Seb said, “you promote healthy lifestyles, family engagement, you teach teamwork and most importantly you have FUN.”
Impairment Camp conception was supported by Steve Shaw member of “The Richard Darton Tennis Foundation”. Steve has an extensive experience with the sport. After a phone conversation with Steve, 10is Academy quickly created a 4-day disability Easter camp to run alongside their very popular tennis camps.
Sebastien helped the children quickly develop an interest in the sport, and 50% of them have already signed up for further lessons in the mainstream coaching.
Adults and Junior camps also took place during the Easter school holidays with once again plenty of happy children and parents.
“Seb and Daisy are fantastic tennis coaches” wrote Gill, “and our 9-year-old son absolutely loves going to his tennis sessions. The sessions are really fun, targeted appropriately to the particular age group and give great coaching for the children to noticeably improve their game. I wholeheartedly recommend.”
The COVID-19 pandemic did cause 10is Academy to shut down its camps last year and its weekly programmes until March this year.
The return of the programme has been a tremendous help to allow 10is Academy to restart strongly and help the parents in getting their kids out of the house and active.
The programme will return to full capacity on Monday 19th April, and several 10is Academy teams (children and adults) will play in the LTA National league and in the LTA Cambs league.
New players can sign up to the programme and play for the 10is teams via www.10is.co.uk
