Ely Air Cadet Saoirse McNeil has landed an apprenticeship for herself with Marshalls paint and body repair centre in Cambridge and she starts her new career this coming Monday.
Back in February half term, 16 year old Saoirse attended an apprenticeship open day With other Air Cadets, Army Cadets and Sea Cadets from across the country. The day was organised by a new non profit making organisation The Cadet Apprenticeship Company who seek to promote the advantages of employing a cadet for large companies looking to take on and train young people.
Marshalls Aerospace and Defence Group a large employer of apprentices themselves, kindly offered the use of their conference centre to The Cadet Apprenticeship Company who then organised the attendance of dozens of other major companies offering full apprenticeships to attendees.
The companies included the apprenticeship recruitment team from Marshalls Aerospace themselves, as well as numerous other major companies such as Anglia Water, and the nearby large Marshall’s Motor Group.
Following a presentation on the advantages of cadets taking on apprenticeships, the cadets from all over Central and East England had the opportunity to speak to all the companies present and weigh up their options.
Saoirse will now start learning whilst she is earning with Marshalls Motor Group. As well as invaluable on the job training with industry leading experts she will also attend college each week and she cannot wait to start her new job.
