Volunteer led Ely Baby Bank received generous £333 donation from Ely Waitrose
Yesterday (Monday 28th June 2021) Ely Baby Bank was delighted to receive an amazing £333 donation from Ely Waitrose as part of their Give a Little Love scheme. Cilla Palmer, one of the Ely Baby Bank founding group, along with a team of volunteers attended the store to collect their voucher and use it for much needed supplies of nappies and baby milk, alongside other baby essentials.
The Baby Bank is run entirely by volunteers, who donate their time to help collect, deliver, and sort through donations, as well as helping families to find what they need, from cribs and buggies to clothes and toys! The bank itself is located in Fordham where items are grouped in three month age ranges, up to 12 months old, for the local parents and carers to choose from.
Cilla said “We are so grateful to be nominated for, and win, the Waitrose Give a Little Love support. It really is donations like this that allow us to continue to support our community. We welcome everyone through our doors here and rely on the generosity of local people and organisations to continue to support us with donations, so we are able to help so many local families.”
“The way the Baby Bank works is simple, people come and take a look around our sheds here in Fordham and take what they need when they need it. If anyone is unable to make it to the bank, they can contact us through our Facebook page and we can arrange a delivery for them by one of our volunteers. The same is true for collections, if you have something and can’t bring it in yourself, please get in touch and we can arrange a collection. We also rely on the community for milk and nappy donations, which are the only things we limit, allowing each family two of each per month to make sure we can support as many people as possible.”
“We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the shoppers and staff at Ely Waitrose for the support, with their help we have stocked up our milk and nappy supplies and will be able to help lots more families, without support like this we would be unable to continue to help as much as we do in our community.”
Aware that families need more than just economical support, Ely Baby Bank has extended its offering by hosting a variety of initiatives including the ‘Real Mothers Circle’ a group hosted by Caitriona Martin and ‘EPIC dads’ hosted by Richard Keeble, where parents have a safe space to talk to and support other parents. Alongside this, the ‘Community Café’ invites the local community to get together and indulge in a hot drink and some delicious cake. All this comes with a host of animals to pet and wide selection of toys for children to entertain themselves, all completely free of charge.
The Baby Bank welcomes local charities and support groups to come and use their space and engage with the community. For more information, or to get involved yourself please visit the Ely Baby Bank page on Facebook.
