Ely Museum Provides Ely Foodbank with Craft and Activity Packs to Spark Creativity this Summer!

Following the success of our foodbank packs during 2020, the museum is delighted to be providing these packs again.

Ely Museum, which reopened to the public in May 2021 following a £2.2m National Lottery Heritage  Fund redevelopment, is delighted to be providing the Ely Foodbank with craft and activity packs again  this year!

Whilst the lockdowns of 2020 and 2021 have been a challenge for everyone, some households have  been hit harder than others, and the need for foodbanks is greater than ever.

With household budgets squeezed, the museum recognised that arts and crafts materials were  probably not top of the shopping list for many, and that’s where they could help!

Thanks to funding from Cambridgeshire County Council and the National Lottery Heritage Fund, the  museum is able to provide these fun packs to the foodbank which are filled with activities to enjoy  all summer and can be handed out with their usual food parcels.

These themed activity packs include all the things a family needed to have fun, whether they’re on a  dinosaur scavenger hunt around the house, playing a traditional Anglo Saxon game, making a World War II spitfire plane or even a prehistoric creature, there is something for all ages and interests to  enjoy!

We are especially pleased this year, thanks to the funding we received from Cambridgeshire County  Council to also be able to include a free annual pass to the museum in the packs, so families can  enjoy free visits to the museum all year!

Emily Allen, Community Engagement Officer at Ely Museum, said “We are delighted to be working with Ely Foodbank again this summer to provide these new craft  packs, inspired by the collection at Ely Museum. With a long summer holiday ahead, we hope the  packs will be enjoyed by families across Ely and a big thank you to Cambridgeshire County Council and the National Lottery Heritage Fund for their support in making these possible”

Ashley, Ely Foodbank Manager, said “Thank you to Ely Museum for providing these activity packs again this year, we know families will  have a lot of fun with them during the summer holidays and they will be gratefully received! It is a  real treat for families who may struggle to afford days out to be receiving a free annual pass to the  museum too!”
