Every year there usually a handful of Ely Runners who sign up for RED January and do some kind of physical activity every day that month, in order to raise awareness around mental health issues. Loads of them have signed up for January 2021!
The idea of RED January is to get active every day that month; whether that be running, cycling, swimming or other forms of activity, to promote the link between being active and improving mental health, and to raise funds for RED January’s charity partner, Sport in Mind.
Sport in Mind aims to improve the lives of people experiencing mental health problems through sport and physical activity. It is the UK’s leading mental health sports charity, delivering physical activity (sport, walking, dance and movement, gardening and exercise sessions) projects in partnership with the amazing NHS in order to aid recovery, promote mental wellbeing, improve physical health, combat social isolation and empower people to move their lives forward in a positive direction.
This year, a record number of Ely Runners, over 30, have signed up to RED January 2021. They will of course be observing the rules relating to the pandemic!
You can support Sport in Mind and the efforts of Ely Runners by making a small donation, even just a little helps, to their Just Giving page. Here is the link.
Thank you and well done, Ely Runners!
