Ely Tennis Club makes a winning start to the Cambs Dunlop Summer League Season

Following on from a record six promotions in the Cambs Winter League, Ely Tennis Club’s Cambs Summer League Teams are raising the bar even higher. 

Ely Men’s 2nd and 4th teams are currently topping Divisions 7 and 13 respectively, whilst Ely’s Women’s 2nd team and Men’s 3rd team sit second in Divisions 6 and 10 with a game in hand for each. The Women’s 3rd team and Men’s 1st Team both currently sit joint 3rd in Divisions 8 and 6, and both teams have a game in hand.

David Field, in his first season as 4th Team Captain, said: “this is a strong start to the summer league season for us, and we’re looking forward to pushing on and trying to clinch one of the two promotion spots.”

Rachel Peacock, Ely Tennis Club Chair, said “This ongoing success is fantastic for our Club and the Ely Community, and the recent introduction of team coaching sessions with Head Coach Jack Pearson will no doubt be having an impact.And the club celebrated the Roman Garos tournament in Paris with a suitable Gallic themed event in June where players were treated to French style games and food. Keep your eyes peeled for the Wimbledon Day in Sunday July 9th.

Women’s 1st Team

Victories against Saffron Walden, David Lloyd, Cambridge and Great Shelford sees them sitting joint second in a closely contested Division 4.

Women’s 2nd Team

Victories against Steeple Morden, Cambourne and Cambridge sees them sitting second in Division 6, with a game in hand.

Women’s 3rd Team

A draw with Histon and victory against Cottenham sees them sitting third in Division 8, with a game in hand.

Men’s 1st Team

Victories against Chatteris, 10is Academy in the local Ely derby fixture and Cambridge sees them sitting joint first in Division 6, but with a game in hand. 

Men’s 2nd Team

Victories against Cottenham, Cambourne and Fulbourn sees them sitting top of Division 7, will next season see the 1st and 2nd teams competing against each other?

Men’s 3rd Team

Victories against Newmarket and Cambourne, and a draw against Longstanton sees them sitting joint second in Division 10.

Men’s 4th Team

Victories against Papworth, Soham and St Neots sees them sitting first in League 13.
