Ely Tigers Girls play first Game

On Sunday Ely Tigers Girls U14s were part of something really special. Ely Tigers Rugby Club hosted a game of Rugby played by 2 teams of U14s Girls. The Girls got to play their first game on home turf and Ely Tigers Rugby Club did them proud.
A new chapter of Girls Rugby has begun at Ely Tigers Rugby Club. Having discovered that a number of other clubs have too few girls to play as a club team, Ely Tigers Girls have joined together with U14 Girls from Cambridge, St Ives and Shelford to form their cluster team, Cambs Barbarians.
September brought a new season and more players joined Ely Tigers Girls. Twice weekly training sessions gave the girls great skills to play rugby safely and confidently. What they needed were games to play. Getting together with Cambridge, St Ives and Shelford Rugby Clubs has enabled all of them to offer games to their U14s Girls.
Bishops Stortford U14s girls gave the Cambs Barbarians a great game and it was a great thing to see so many girls enjoy playing rugby. It was a close game with Bishops Stortford putting in the match winning performance.
This weekend saw the culmination of the commitment and determination of everyone involved with U14s Girls rugby and Ely Tigers Rugby Club. There was a spectacular guard of honour which involved all age groups of Tigers players. What better example could you set, than showing your support so enthusiastically.

Meanwhile, the Ely Tigers Girls U12s played with their Cambs Barbarians Cluster team in the first of their Conference games. They all played fantastically well and the scores reflected their efforts with 2 wins!
