Ely Tigers travelled to 10th placed Colchester IIs looking to halt their recent run of defeats, but it was injuries and players availability that once more came back to haunt Tigers as they went down another heavy defeat to slip to second from bottom in the league, the game started evenly but with 10 minutes on the clock the home side that troubled the score board with opening try and conversion in front of the uprights, 5 minutes later the lead was doubled with their second try of the afternoon to the right of the posts, this was quickly followed up by the third try, from a line out, the home side won the ball and breaking down the wing to score in the corner, they were unable to add the conversion, the bonus point try came on 25 minutes when the home side managed to find a huge gap in the Tigers defence to score under the posts.
With half an hour on the clock, a penalty to Ely, saw them opting to kick for the points, Rhys Williams Goldman scored the three points, but moments later back came the home with another converted try
On 48 minutes on the clock, Colchester add to their score with another converted try, as the home side over power Ely, on 54 minutes the home side cross the try line again, from a line out they cross the line in the corner, but they were unable to add the conversion. 40-3, with 60 minutes on the clock, Tigers cross the try line, during their best passage of play, as they start to win the ball, and move thru hands, finally seeing Jordan Barnes crossing the line, However, the were unable to build on this as from the restart Colchester went on the attack, scoring a further try, again they were unable to add the conversion, with the game coming to an end there was still time for one more try, a hopeful punt forward looked to be going out of play, but the ball bounced unkindly for Ely in there own try goal area, and was failed to be cleared as the home side picked up the loose ball to score, they were unable to add the conversion as the full time whistle blew.
