Ely Tigers opened 2024 with a trip to second in the league, Wymondham, for the first of three difficult fixtures for the Tigers.
The home side took the lead on 7 minutes, as a mistake from Ely proved costly, with the referee playing the advantage, Wymondham raced forward to cross the try line, the conversion was missed, with 20 minutes on the clock and the home scored their second try of the afternoon, after winning a line out they found gaps in the defence to cross the line. with the conversion added they led 12-0
In a stop-start game Ely were awarded a penalty, opting to kick fo the points, Matt McCarthy slotted the ball through the posts,
Ely were forced to make changes as Adam Tallack was forced off with an injury, as the game reached half time with no further score.
Second half, saw Ely camped in the home sides half, with Wymondham able to gain ground, eventually they found a way in to the Ely defence from a scrum spreading the ball out form right to left, eventually crossing the line to score,
Tigers chance of the half came late in the half, however the home defence stood up to the test, and as Tigers conceded another penalty, which gave the home side the chance to clear, as the game edged to full time with the final scoring finishing with a 17-3 home win.
