Energy balls recalled over food poisoning fears

A snack sold at health food stores and gyms has been recalled because of fears it may contain bacteria linked to food poisoning.
Bounce Foods has initiated a voluntary recall of its Bounce Cashew & Pecan Protein Balls and Bounce Apple & Cinnamon Protein Balls, after they were found to have sunflower kernels that may be contaminated with listeria.

The energy balls are sold at Holland and Barrett and other health food stores.
In a statement, Bounce Foods said they had withdrawn the two products as a precautionary measure.
“We would like to reassure all of our customers that we have not received any news of consumers being affected by the possible contamination.”
The only products affected are Bounce Cashew & Pecan Protein Balls with best before date ranges from 29/08/2016 to 15/2/2017 and Bounce Apple & Cinnamon Protein Balls with best before date ranges starting 28/08/2016 to 12/03/2017.
Listeria can cause listeriosis, a type of food poisoning, with symptoms including a high temperature, muscle pain, chills, vomiting and diarrhoea.
If the infection spreads to the brain, it can cause meningitis, a potentially deadly infection.
Other severe symptoms can include blood poisoning (septicaemia), seizures and tremors.
Those with an increased risk of developing listeriosis include people over 65, pregnant women and their unborn babies, infants under a month old and people with a weakened immune system.
