Father Christmas himself is visiting the museum on 9th and 10th December!
As the nights draw in and the winter chill enters the air, there’s plenty of festive fun to be had at Ely Museum. From traditional festive crafts and traditions to a visit from Father Christmas himself, we have lots of upcoming dates for the diary.
On November 11th we will be holding a Christmas Willow Weaving Workshop with artist Karen Bek. A chance to learn the traditional local craft of willow weaving and make some fantastic festive decorations to take home and include in Christmas decorations for years to come. Learn how to make a range of stars and a large willow angel and show of your creative talent to the friends and family who gather for the festive season. A full day workshop from 10.30am to 4pm, including all materials. To find out more and book your place, visit www.elymuseum.org.uk/whats-on
For those with a more gastronomic interest, we are delighted to be hosting food historian Dr Annie Gray on the evening of 28th November. She will be sharing fantastic facts about the origins of our favourite Christmas foods and talking through 500 years of changing food traditions from medieval masques to more recent innovations. Annie Gray is one of Britain’s leading food historians and the author of several well-received books including At Christmas We Feast: Festive Food through the Ages, which will also be on sale. Tickets can be booked at: www.elymuseum.org.uk/whats-on – but be aware they are selling out fast!
Then, the highlight of our Christmas season, Father Christmas will be visiting Ely Museum on Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th December, from 10.30am – 1pm and 1.30pm – 4pm. Tickets do not need to be pre-booked and can be bought on arrival. Each child costs £5 and accompanying adults are free. Come along and meet our traditional Father Christmas and soak up some of the Christmas spirit on a fun family-friendly weekend hosted with the support of the magic elves at City Cycle Centre.
