Two Soham firemen and a Burwell firefighter have been recognised for their long service to the Fire Service during a prestigious awards ceremony.
Soham crew commander Giles Fuller and firefighter David Hobbs both received the Long Service and Good Conduct medal, awarded after completing 20 years’ long and meritorious service to the fire and rescue service and the public.
The medal was presented by Deputy Lieutenant of Cambridgeshire, Penny Walkinshaw.
Meanwhile Burwell watch commander Les Fuller received the Chairman’s Award, given to retired personnel with at least 25 years’ service.
The award was presented by Sir Peter Brown, Chairman of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Fire Authority.
The annual awards ceremony was held at the Marriott Hotel in Huntingdon on January 19 and was attended by over 140 guests.
It recognised the commitment, dedication and professionalism of Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service staff and others outside of the organisation that went above and beyond to serve the community.
Cambridge Black Watch, including Jeff Whitlam from Witchford, received the Excellence in Community Fire Safety Award for their innovative video, reminding people to get their chimneys swept to prevent fires by dressing up as chimney sweets and re-enacting Mary Poppins’ classic, Step in Time.
The crew also received an Operational Excellence Award for successfully rescuing a trapped donkey from an 18 inch man hole inside a flooded, seven foot deep pit.
Speaking after the ceremony, Chief Fire Officer Chris Strickland said: “The awards give us the chance to celebrate all the amazing work that takes place 24/7 on the frontline, behind the scenes and within our communities.
“They allow us to recognise the commitment, passion, dedication and professionalism of all our staff, both operational and support, giving the nod to those who are inspirational leaders, innovative thinkers and those dedicated to making a difference to the lives of all the residents of Cambridgeshire.”
