Getting to Know All About You

Members of Ely City’s Women’s Institute got together for a Valentines themed meeting on 14th February.

Celebrating all things friendship, the group got stuck in with a ‘speed greeting’ session to find out all about everyone and their hobbies and interests.

The WI is a unique organisation and is the largest women’s organisation in the UK. A chance to make friends and make a difference to the community; Ely City WI found the perfect way to start their climb into 2022 with many recent new members (and navigate their way through the last hurdles of the pandemic) and get to know their fellow members.

As the meeting was held on Valentine’s Day, and the date became associated with love in the Middle Ages; what better way to think about love (in loving our campaigns, loving our friendships, loving being able to resume ‘life as we knew it’, loving getting to make new friends and loving ourselves) than keeping up with this theme. Members were given the names of one half of a famous pair and had to find their ‘other half’ and spend time chatting with them.

There was a real buzz in the room and everyone got involved and had a great time; all sorts of interesting and engaging conversations took place and it was a chance for the Committee to receive input into the kind of things that matter to our members; what sort of events and activities they would like to be involved in and also any quirky interests and skills they may have!

Everyone said how much they had enjoyed the session and it was rounded off with a thank you from the committee and some reflection on how self-love is also just as important. Despite restrictions over the past two years; many of our members have been on some very important personal journeys and that we are grateful to have each exceptional individual as a part of our WI.

Our next meeting is on March 14th in the Old Dispensary, St Mary’s Street where our Guest Speaker will be Marie Brown. Why not come along? Bring a friend? Meet new friends? Socialise? Enjoy an evening out? Do something different and find out that it’s not all ‘Jam and Jerusalem’ but ‘Journey and Join’; the WI really does have something for everyone so why not start your journey with us and come along and see what we are all about?
