Cadet Flight Sergeant Rory Donoghue is jetting off to far colder climes to take part in a week long residential Snow Boarding course as part of his Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme Gold Award.
Over the past three years Flight Sergeant Donoghue achieved his Bronze and Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award and during the last 12 months Rory has been working towards his Gold Award by completing three of the five required sections:
For his Interest and Skills section Rory studied Aeronautics.
For his Physical Recreation section he spent 12 months working on the award schemes circuit training based fitness programme where he achieved maximum points.
For his Voluntary Work Section Rory spent a year leading a team of cadets performing “Guerilla Gardening” on Community gardening projects.
Rory hopes to complete his final section of his Gold Award this Summer with his practice and actual wild country expeditions planned for July and August and if successful he will receive an invitation to The Palace to receive his award.
At Ely we currently have four of our senior cadets pursuing the last stages of their Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and hopefully Rory will be joined at the Palace by Cadet Sergeant Joe Harris, Emily Pietrrs and Abigail Stubbs.
