Heritage Open Days 2023

Visit Ely Opens the Door to the Cities Heritage from 8th September – 17th September

Heritage Open Days, the national festival aimed at making Heritage accessible to all, returns for 2023 and Visit Ely are thrilled to be organizing a number of wonderful events again.

With the support of partners, including Kings Ely and more, the program for this year is an exciting and engaging one. From tours of buildings that are usually unavailable to the public, including one of the Medieval cottages on Silver Street and Prior Crauden’s Chapel, to free entry to Oliver Cromwell’s House this is an event with something for everyone.

Oliver Cromwell’s House will be open for free on Friday, 8th September from 2pm until 5pm with the usual admission fee waved! Not only that, there will also be a rare chance to see the incredible 15th Century wall paintings that have been so well preserved. These paintings are kept out of direct sunlight and for many visitors, they won’t even be aware of their existence despite having walked right by them.

Anna Bennett of Visit Ely said, “Once again, we are delighted to support this national event and showcase Ely’s hidden history and heritage. It’s an amazing opportunity to learn about where you live, or where you are visiting”

Other organizations, including Ely Cathedral and Ely Museum will also be hosting events in Ely and there are events in Littleport and Soham too.
