We are looking for a motivated and skilled GIS Officer to join our team.

£33,699 to £38,220 per annum plus benefits

In this role you will provide expert advice and guidance on GIS (Geographic Information System) across the council. You will hold regular sessions to communicate key messages and developments across the GIS work area, showcasing examples of best practice and providing a forum for all staff to raise and discuss GIS related issues across the council.

You will carry out a broad range of spatial data‑capture activities to maintain an accurate and up‑to‑date GIS dataset, alongside producing maps and delivering geospatial analysis. In addition, you will lead improvements in data management, ensuring that the council’s captured data is accessible by developing and enhancing publishing tools that openly share information with both internal and external stakeholders.

You will demonstrate strong knowledge of the Ordnance Survey Public Sector Geospatial Agreement, supported by experience in spatial database development, including the design, architecture, build and implementation of spatial data solutions.

The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills which are essential for conveying information effectively to both technical and non‑technical audiences, internally and externally. You’ll be dependable, adaptable, and responsive, with the ability to meet changing service demands. Strong attention to detail and the confidence to act assertively are a must for success in this role.

You will have a degree with a strong spatial data component, or at least three years of equivalent professional experience, along with proven experience in spatial database development and in implementing spatial data standards across all business areas.

Please note that this position is office based and if appointed you will be required to work from the council’s offices.
