The Ely Muslim Association are once again inviting the citizens of Ely to come and enjoy their free Fasting Feast on the Market Square next Monday, 20th June at 8.30.
Muslims every year practise Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic Calendar and they celebrate by fasting during daylight hours. The month of fasting can last 29 or 30 days depending on the visual sightings of the crescent moon.
10 restaurants, Sylhet, Balti King, Le Spice, Basmati, Thai Lounge, Indian Garden, Sutton Tandoori, Spice Lounge, Mango Valley and the newly opened Market Street Brasserie spend the day preparing food for the night time feast.
Last year they expected 100 people to attend and yet they managed to feed 250 after a ring round. This year the number will probably grow further.
