Junior parkrun Comes to Ely!

Calling all children and their families in Ely and surrounding areas! There is a brand new junior parkrun at Ely Pocket Park!

junior parkrun is a free timed 2km run/walk for children aged 4 to 14 yrs, takes place in a safe and secure environment overseen by experienced volunteers. It starts at 9 am, every Sunday and is great fun!

The event is organised by committed and friendly volunteers, who perform different roles week to week.  Roles include marshalling, organising the finish funnel, time keeping, or scanning the runners’ barcodes. Full training is provided, and no previous experience is required.

Volunteering at junior parkrun is fun and rewarding and you will be helping children and their families in Ely to lead more active and fulfilling lives. You can volunteer as and when it suits you. If you are interested and would like to join, please email: elycountryjuniors@parkrun.com

First time runners are asked to register online beforehand and take along a printed copy of their barcode (a picture on a mobile is also accepted). Registration is easy and free to do- just visit the following link:

Parents and guardians can run with their children, but children are expected to cross the finishing line by themselves. Participants and their families are also invited for a post-race coffee at the nearby café in Sainsbury’s.

Debbie Williams, one of the Ely Country junior parkrun Running Directors said, “We only started on 9th January and so far, the event has been a huge success! We have welcomed 231 unique runners over all four events and the current course record is 7.51 minutes! The whole team at Ely Country junior parkrun is keen to give our local children the opportunity to be part of a friendly group, enjoying active, healthy fun outdoors and in a safe environment. I would also like to thank our core team of volunteers and our sponsors: Ely Runners, the Ely Tri Club and Pedro’s Personal Training, who helped Ely Country junior parkrun becoming a reality!”
