Lest We Forget – Memorials Placed Around Ely

Early this morning Andy Wilson and Marc Beveridge installed the City of Ely’s “There But Not There” Memorial to our fallen comrades from the Great War. This is a joint project between the City of Ely Royal British Legion Branch and local members of The Royal British Legions National Cyclists Branch.

The memorial is situated in two locations. The first is located at Ely War Memorial and the second at St George’s Chapel in Ely Cathedral. St George’s Chapel is dedicated to The Cambridgeshire Regiment who lost 876 men during The Great War.

Both installations will be in place until the 12th November 2018. The project has been funded by Pier Construction, Winchmore Construction and Brethren from The Porta Lodge 9511.

One of the figures has been photographed in areas of Ely that would have been familiar to the men.
