On Sunday 7th April, Producer Becky Smith, made her way to Ipswich for the annual NODA (National Operatic and Dramatic Association) award ceremony, as the Littleport Players had been nominated for the ‘Best Pantomime’ award, for their production of Alice in Wonderland, that took place in December. They were up against fellow local theatre groups, Waterbeach Theatre Company and Bunbury Players, Mildenhall.
Much to Becky’s delight, the local theatre company were announced as the winners. Competition for this award is notoriously fierce as our neighbouring theatre companies also manage to put-on top-quality panto productions every year. When Littleport Players were announced as the winners, we were shocked, but very excited. There’s so much time, effort and care that goes into putting on a show from our production team and cast, so it’s wonderful to have that official recognition..
The Littleport Players have in the past, twice won the Best Technical award (Our House, Avenue Q) but this is the first time they have managed to scoop the coveted Best Pantomime award.
Celebrations however, are on hold as the company are busy in the studio rehearsing for their next production, a strictly adults-only pantomime, ‘Mother Goose – Cracks One Off!’. This is very much a show for the grown-ups! The subtle innuendos you may find in a traditional pantomime are thrown out of the window. As well as rude jokes you can also find some catchy pop songs, questionable dancing and even some romance!
Littleport Players presents Liam Mellor’s Mother Goose – Cracks One Off at Littleport Village Hall, Friday 31st May & Sat 1st June (7.30pm).
Tickets are £10 (+booking fee) and can be purchased online at ticketsource.co.uk/littleportplayers
