Lucy Frazer MP announces COVID Community Champion Award Runners Up

Local heroes from across Cambridgeshire recognised for supporting their local communities during the pandemic.

Lucy Frazer, MP for South East Cambridgeshire has recognised the efforts of local constituents in her COVID Community Champion Awards.

Nominated by members of the public, Louize and James Hurst, Elizabeth Brunton and Jeanette Fenn have been selected as the runners up of Ms Frazer’s COVID Community Champion Awards.

Working closely with Churches Together, Louize and James organised and distributed weekly food parcels, starting in the first Covid lockdown in March 2020. While James did the planning (with other Churches Together colleagues), Louize took on an enormous amount of shopping and collecting of donations. They were both part of the team that sorted and packed the boxes, and then delivered them to the recipients. The scheme has continued to the present day, through all the school holidays. Additionally, Louize continues to be an active participant in Chippenham’s COVID ‘Helping Hands’ scheme, volunteering tirelessly to help the elderly and vulnerable Chippenham and neighbouring Snailwell during these difficult times.

Elizabeth helped to organise Burwell’s support network delivering shopping and medicine and keeping people connected with the outside world.

And Jeanette set up a local food bank, collecting donations and supplied swaps support. She set up a Covid connections group providing time and communication for people isolated and was a centre point for information, support and help.

Last month, recognised Dr Katrina Young, Phil Priestley and Katja Gauci and Stephanie Prior for the vaccination rollout, distributing laptops and looking after vulnerable residents.

Lucy Frazer MP said: “The response to the COVID Community Champion Awards has been fantastic, and I would like to congratulate and thank Louize and James, Elizabeth and Jeanette for their amazing efforts throughout the pandemic.

I know local residents are really grateful for the tremendous support that has been provided.”
