Marathon Run for Prostate Cancer UK and Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust

Ruth New and Kirsty Smith, two friends from Ely, are running the London Marathon on Sunday 3rd October to raise money for Prostate Cancer UK and Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust.

They are running to raise money for two charities that are very close to their hearts.

Prostate cancer is something that runs in Ruth’s family and something her Dad and other family members are living with. Prostate Cancer UK not only support families,  following a diagnosis of Prostate Cancer but also campaigns for new treatments and funds research.

Every day in the UK 129 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer and every 45 mins a man dies from prostate cancer. 1 in 8 men in the UK will get prostate cancer. Every step of her run is a step to do something positive to support her Dad and all those who are living with prostate cancer and to hopefully ensure that treatments and cures are developed to stop others including grandads, dads, uncles, sons (including her own), nephews, friends, neighbours and many others having to go through this.

Kirsty is raising money for Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust (ACT) and their Big Cancer Campaign. Every day 11 people face a new cancer diagnosis at Addenbrookes and the money from this campaign goes to help those patients have access to quality patient care, improving outcomes and improving their hospital experience and support as well as supporting pioneering research. Now more than ever our local hospital needs support to improve these services for local people.
