Match Report: Ely Tigers vs Wisbech

Ely Tigers made the short trip across to face the leagues basement side, Wisbech, where again they we’re forced into changes to the squad due to injuries and player unavailability.

The home side the lead, despite their league position, looked the b righter of the two sides, pushing Tigers back, it was no surprise that they scored the opening try, when Ethan Garford, crossed the line to score, the home side were unable to add the conversion, from the restart Ely attack the home side, and they soon score their opening try as Jim Storey scores, diving over the line, the returning Jake Alsop, back on kicking duties, was able to add the conversions, as Tigers took a two point lead.

A penalty awarded to Tigers saw their second try of afternoon, Tigers quickly took the penalty close to Wisbech try line, where it was picked up by Storey for his second try off the afternoon in the corner, Alsop was unable to add the conversion from tough line.

A kick forward by Ely, saw a fumble at the back for Wisbech putting their back line under pressure, a chance to clear their lines, but a kick forward failed to Wisbech any breathing time as back came Tigers, the finally finding Rob Armer to cross the line to score to the left of the post, giving Alsop an easy chance to add the conversion, as half time approach, Tigers picked up a bonus point as they scored their fourth try of the afternoon, as they kept up the pressure on the home, the ball being moved  crosses again keeping the pressure on, moving ball from right to left, Alfie Ramswell  crosses to score, Alsop manages to add the conversion to give a 26-5 half time lead.

The second half turned into a scrappy and messy game, with neither side able to get a grip of the game, on the hour mark, Wisbech put pressure on the Tigers, a knock on gave Tigers the chance to clear, but a penalty against them put the pressure back on themselves, a line out to the home side saw Wisbech camped out on the try line, finally finding the overlap in the corner to score, with a the conversion missed, inside the last ten minutes Tigers went down to 14 as Alsop when shown a yellow card, but during this closing period neither side could add to the scoreline as Tigers ran out 26-10 winners.
