New Big Band Show in Isleham

Following Ely Rotary Club’s successful Big Band Show with Opus 17 at Ely College Needhams Hall, on February 12th, St. Andrews Parish Church in Isleham is repeating the performance in celebration of our Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, on June 4th.

The new programme by Opus 17 will be “Mainly Miller”, to remind everyone of 1945, when the Queen begged her father King George VI to let her join the army as a driver/mechanic in her support of the war effort, nearly three years before her marriage to Prince Philip.

Favourite melodies will include the familiar “In the Mood”, “Moonlight Serenade”, “Pennsylvania 6-5000”. “String of Pearls”. “Little Brown Jug”. “Don’t Sit Under the Apple Tree”, “American Patrol”, “Tuxedo Junction”, “Kalamazoo” and more, and this year new-buys of “On a Little Street in Singapore”, “Sunrise Serenade” and “Slow Freight”. What a nostalgic array of memories for “those of a certain age”, and no doubt younger, too! And to cap it all, there should be plenty of space for dancing!

The venue in Isleham will be The Beeches Village Community Centre (Postcode for sat-nav CB7 5RY), at 7.00pm for 7.30pm start.

Ticket is priced at £17 each, payable by bank transfer, cash or cheque. For bank transfer email eric@ericgrant185.plus.com, for the Church bank details, or for where to pay direct to the church fund.

The proceeds will go to the donation committee’s fund for urgent repairs to the church roof.
