New tennis event launched this weekend at 10is Academy

The ‘10is race’, a new internal event that carries ranking points, opened this weekend at 10is Academy Ely.

The event involved junior and adult competitors in 8 different age categories playing matches to gain points in four competitions before fighting for the title.

The new tournament was launch in September with the first Open on Saturday 29th October and Sunday 30th October 2022.

On Saturday the women’s final saw Lingling battled Sarah in a thrilling 3 sets. Lingling comfortably took the first set 4/1 but couldn’t stop Sarah’s come back in the second set 1/4. The match was decided in a tight championship tiebreak won by Lingling 10/7.

In the Men’s final it was a similar affair with Tom defeating Seb 11/9 on his second match point in the third set. Final score 4/2 1/4 11/9

The Juniors were also on court playing some impressive tennis. Jeremy’s performance who won the Junior competition was remarkable as well as Sophie’s who fought hard in the final.

On Sunday, despite the rain Tom and Seb battled back from a set down as they overcame the new rising stars Mish and Max in an entertaining match. Final score 5/7 6/1 6/4. The women doubles final has been rescheduled for next week.

“The 10is race is an important and strategic event for 10is Academy that reflects a continued commitment in elevating our sport,” said 10is Academy director Sebastien Scaux.

“This exciting singles and doubles events will bring together emerging stars and established athletes to compete on the same stage.”

Three more rounds will take place during 2023. At the end of the four Opens, the best performing players and teams will be fighting for the title of “10is champion”.

“Most importantly, it will create incredible new experiences for our competitors and their fans. We’re excited to see the best 10is boys, girls, men and women players competing together, with ranking points on the line, to launch the season like never before.”
