Preparations Underway for Ely College’s Christmas Market in bid to raise funds for school resources

Parents, teachers and friends of Ely College, part of Meridian Trust, will be hosting over 40 commercial stallholders at its Christmas Market this Thursday evening (24th November 6-9pm).

Organisers have been overwhelmed by the generosity of the many parents and carers who have donated items for the raffle, tombola and bottle stalls at the event, which is the first of its kind since Covid.

Bev Saddington, Chair of the Parent Teacher Friend Association (PTFA) of Ely College said “We’ve been incredibly well supported by local businesses who have bolstered our grand raffle and tombola. Prizes include tickets to see Michael Ball at Ely Cathedral and many vouchers for various local restaurants and coffee shops.”

The evening runs from 6pm to 9pm and offerings include an array of gifts, crafts, food and drink including jewellery, books, bags, cushions, candles, reed diffusers, purses, keyrings, spirits/liqueurs, sweets, stationery, soft toys and Christmas decorations (to name but a few).

Ely College PTFA was only set up in March, but has already hosted a Quiz night, sold ice pops at sports day and served breakfast pancakes to welcome in new Year 7 students. They’re hoping to round the year off with a successful Christmas market.

Simon Warburton, Principal of Ely College said “Every single penny raised will go directly to school fundraising in support of curriculum departments, equipment and experiences for the children. We’re really looking forward to welcoming everyone on Thursday evening.”
